The Role of RTM Directors in Leasehold Building Management

Right to Manage (RTM) companies allow leaseholders to take control of the management of their building without purchasing the freehold. This gives residents more influence over how their building is maintained and how service charges are managed.

RTM directors play an important role in ensuring that the building is managed responsibly and efficiently. Their duties can include organizing maintenance work, communicating with managing agents, overseeing finances, and making decisions that affect all residents in the building.

Although RTM directors are usually volunteers rather than property professionals, they are still responsible for ensuring that their decisions follow legal requirements and the terms of the lease. This can sometimes feel overwhelming for residents who are new to the role.

With clear guidance and practical training, RTM directors can gain the confidence needed to manage their buildings effectively. Understanding the responsibilities involved can help directors make better decisions and create a more organized management structure for their building.
